Directed by Barry Levinson (Diner, Sleepers, Rain Man, etc.)
Starring Dustin Hoffman, Robert DeNiro, Anne Heche, Woody Harrelson, Dennis Leary, Willy Nelson, John Michael Higgins
Synopsis: “Before the president runs for re-election, a spin-doctor (DeNiro) and a Hollywood producer (Hoffman) join efforts to ‘fabricate’ a war in order to cover-up a presidential sex scandal.”
This movie is really entertaining. I love the idea of bringing in a Hollywood producer to create a false war (using makeup people, set designers, creating a soundtrack, etc.), and Dustin Hoffman does an amazing job here. As absurd as the story is, he never feels too over-the-top. DeNiro is pretty solid too, but he’s not reinventing the wheel. As much as the satire is pretty spot on, I did think things got pretty outrageous once Woody Harrelson’s “war hero” is involved.
Overall, really great though.
